Rugs as investment
The best investments are rugs in perfect condition and of fine quality made prior to the 1900s. Most of these come from Persia (Iran), Turkey or India.
For example, a fine quality Persian Kashan rug, woven in the 1900s, bought in the late 1950s between £90 and £140 would, in good condition today (1970) fetch between £500 and £600.
One can see by this example that not only has one had the advantage of possessing a beautiful rug for a number of years, but at the same time a sound investment has been made, often unknowingly.
Most people are surprised to learn that their rugs are of such value. The cheaper quality rugs which in the same period cost £25 to £40 have only increased to a maximum of £120 today.
